niko SPRINGPOOL

Niko Springpool is a sibling project to Niko Kouraku, exploring the enchanting surprises that arise from interventions in small-batch production. In close partnership with Spring Pool Glass, the largest glass recycling factory in Taiwan, the project crafts a family of three glass objects—a vase, a shot glass, and a waffle plate—made entirely from 100% recycled glass sourced from LCD monitor production.

This project emphasizes chance and craftsmanship to challenge the notion of “sameness” in production. It intentionally alters the traditional glassblowing and press-molding processes by using inexpensive wooden molds instead of steel molds, allowing for gradual distortion of form. Additionally, molten glass in two different colors is poured into steel molds, creating unique patterns during the pressing process.

Spring Pool Glass continues to produce this collection, with selected items available for purchase at their local stores in Taiwan.

“Using wooden molds brought about shape variations we don’t usually see—but the results were genuinely interesting.”

Yat Song, Spring Pool Glass Founder
